The McLaren Formula 1 Teams contender for the 2025 FIA Formula One World Championship, the MCL39 aims to build on the successful foundation of last years Constructors Championship winning MCL38, striving for further success. In the hands of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, in their seventh and third seasons with the team respectively, the MCL39 seeks to secure McLarens first double Championship win in 27 years.

While the MCL39 is an evolution of the MCL38, which was consistently amongst the quickest cars of the 2024 season, it represents a significant technical advancement over its predecessor, exhibiting substantial layout changes as McLaren seek to maintain their competitive advantage. The radiators have shifted further up and backwards compared to the MCL38, and it retains the front pull-rod and rear pushrod suspension layout, but with increased anti-dive measures to better control the car’s ride height. Other notable changes included new sidepod inlet shapes, revised engine cover bodywork, and a new, wider airbox inlet shape, whilst every part of the car has been optimised for maximum performance, with further upgrades planned throughout the year.

Unveiled at the F1 75 launch event on the 18th of February at Londons O2 Arena, the cars livery remains largely unchanged from 2024. The 2025 design continues to use McLarens iconic papaya colour palette, complemented with anthracite and a touch of teal, in honour of the teams rich historical tradition of carrying over livery designs from Championship winning years. Subtle updates include revamped driver numbers and a new race seat, but the overall aesthetic remains consistent. Elements taken from the geometric camouflage livery that debuted at pre-season filming day will feature on the driver race suits, with a diagonal cut-through integrating anthracite into the papaya design.
